TEKS-Aligned Courses: Opening Doors to STEM Education in Texas

Even Khan Academy Is Bigger in Texas

We don’t have to tell y’all: education isn’t one-size-fits-all. And that’s why the edtech solution you trust should include differentiated features to address the unique needs of learners in your state. Today, learn about the ways in which Khan Academy–thanks to the generosity of the ExxonMobil Foundation–has updated their platform to assist Texas students and educators with delivering high-quality, mastery-based learning experiences.

Khan Academy and the ExxonMobil Foundation have teamed up to launch the Open Doors Project, which will bring enhanced STEM education to students in Texas with new, innovative lessons and teacher guides to facilitate their implementation.

Thanks to a generous grant from the ExxonMobil Foundation, Khan Academy will be sending Texas educators into the 2024–2025 school year with updated, TEKS-aligned student courses and teacher guides that will ensure they are prepared to meet the needs of every learner.

Updated resources will include:

Support at all levels of content knowledge. Teachers tasked with working in new content areas have long trusted Khan Academy to help bring them up to speed on new standards. With additional resources, new teachers can navigate new roles with even more confidence, and seasoned teachers can access new bandwidth to implement their most creative lessons yet.

Resources that encourage teachers to lean on best practices. Teachers using the new resources will receive detailed guidance on defining appropriate learning objectives, addressing misconceptions, and the most effective ways to teach and scaffold new learning content. As teachers’ confidence increases, so will their students–and that collective efficacy will translate directly into learning outcomes.

Clear guidance on how to translate mastery learning across STEM. Implementing mastery-based learning in something as systematic as mathematics can seem intuitive. But science can feel like a whole new world. With structured lesson plans and clear instructional guidance, teachers will know how to break down science TEKS to different skill levels and adapt their instruction to students’ unique learning levels.
