I’ve often posted about the Home Cultures Project I do every year with my students (see Home Culture Project – With New Examples & Student Handouts!).
It’s a great activity for English Language Learners (and, I think, English-proficient students).
This year, all our ELL classes are doing it and students will be presenting their slideshows to each other.
In the project, several elements of culture are listed, and I’ve used the same each year (see the original post for the list).
This time, however, in a meeting of our teachers, we decided to expand the list and then ask students to choose ten to describe in their presentation.
Here are the additional options we came up with:
Superstitions
Ghost stories
Rite of passage ceremony
Sports/Games
Childhood games
Schooling
Entertainment
Key historical events
Clothing/Dress
Literature
Landmarks/Cities/Important Places
What happens in parties/fiestas/cultural events
