Research Finds Long-Term Negative Consequences To School Closures For Economic Reasons

 

The Harm of School Closures Can Last a Lifetime, New Research Shows is the headline of an Education Week article explaining the results of a new study (which is not related to the physical closing of schools during COVID).

Of course, teachers, students and their families already knew this.

I realize that districts sometimes face financial crises that cause them to consider closures.  However, I sometimes wonder how seriously they consider equity issues that are involved, along with “outside-of-the-box” solutions apart from school closures?  These could included inviting other governmental agencies or nonprofit organizations to share physical facilities and costs.
