A Recap: Khan Academy’s July 18th Webinar For District Administrators In Texas

Hello, Texas School District Administrators

We hope this post finds you doing well. If you missed our recent webinar, no worries. We’re here to provide you with the highlights and latest updates from Khan Academy, as well as a full recording of the event. You can also reach out to your regional manager, Dr. Mark Jamison to talk about a Khan Academy District Partnership any time at this link.

TEKS teacher guides

Dr. Kate Garfinkel is a professional learning expert at Khan Academy, and she opened with a walk-through of the TEKS-aligned teacher guides—our powerful new resources geared toward supporting early-career teachers and teachers switching subjects in their efforts to align their instruction to Texas’ rigorous state standards. These guides help teachers seamlessly integrate Khan Academy’s extensive course repository into classrooms. Here is an example from an 8th-grade math course.

TEKS courses

Then, Khan Academy’s senior regional manager of school partnerships in Texas, Dr. Mark Jamison, introduced the audience to our broad suite of new TEKS-aligned courses. Thanks to ExxonMobil’s support, we’ve been able to develop extensive resources in STEM subjects and look forward to creating more in the future. Khan Academy’s course menu is massive, and teachers can find a variety of courses they can use in their classroom, from math, ELA, and grammar to science, history, and financial literacy. The TEKS courses are designed to ensure Texas students can reach their grade-level goals while maintaining the flexibility to learn at their own pace. Webinar attendees also got to see how Khan Academy’s AI tool, Khanmigo, can support Texas teachers in optimizing their use of the new TEKS content.

Benefits of Khan Academy District Partnerships

Before we closed, Dr. Jamison shared the benefits that accompany a formal partnership with Khan Academy. District administrators get dedicated implementation support; district-specific dashboards; tailored professional learning; and access to the AI-powered student tutor, Khanmigo. Khanmigo acts as both a personal tutor for students and a teaching assistant for teachers, streamlining preparation work while meeting the unique needs of each student. And, yes, these benefits can be funded with title funding!

On the safety front, Dr. Jamison assured everyone that Khanmigo complies with all laws that regulate the privacy of student data and is SOC audited. We also covered the advanced moderation technology that is currently in place to ensure that every interaction is safe and appropriate.
