Google Continues To Use AI To Let Us Create Cute Little Things Instead Of Something Useful

I just don’t understand how Google – GOOGLE!!! – can spend so much time and energy on Artificial Intelligence and do anything truly useful with it.

Their latest cute and fun thing is called Whisk. It’s so weird that I can’t even explain it, so I’ll quote their explanation:

Whisk lets you prompt with images. Simply drag in images, and start creating.

Whisk lets you input images for the subject, one for the scene and another image for the style. Then, you can remix them to create something uniquely your own, from a digital plushie to an enamel pin or sticker.

Yes, I think I can have some fun with it when playing with my granddaughter next week, but really, what are they thinking?

I’ve posted about their past efforts at Google Continues Its Creation Of Cute, Though Hardly Worth Destroying The Planet, AI Tools By Letting You Create Unique Chess Sets and Google Continues To Try Hard With Several New AI Tools, But I Still Don’t Think They’re Worth The Climate Change They Cause.

I also don’t think there’s much question that ChatGPT is far superior to Google’s Gemini, at least in creating teacher materials.

I think their NotebookLM can help with research, but it’s not earth-shattering.

And, it’s so frustrating that the best way AI was being used to help teachers was by having it create interactive videos, but then they made it impossible for others to do that with YouTube videos (see One Of The Few Truly Useful Ways AI Has Helped Teachers Appears To Have Been Snuffed Out).

Then, in the  Google For Education program that districts can pay for, like ours does, is supposed to be able to have Google’s AI be able to create interactive videos, but it only works about one-sixth of the time!

Come on, Google!  Be better!
