I’ve been busy the past couple of weeks sharing advice (and acting on it myself) for how teachers might respond to President Trump’s actions (see I’ve Written Three Ed Week Columns Sharing Over 20 Actions Teachers Can Take Now That Trump Is President – Here Are Links To All Of Them).

Prompted Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer’s ridiculous post tonight (see below), I shared some unsolicited advice for Democratic Party leaders on how they should be responding, informed by judgment developed during my nineteen year community organizing career:

This is truly clueless. Instead, how about:
* Having press conferences & actions at fed offices around the US where people can tell how Trump’s actions are making their lives worse

* Raising millions 2 support grassroots organizing now instead of parachuting canvassers into precincts in 2024

Other things they could do:
* vote against all trump nominees & gum up works using every arcane congressional rule imaginable until they get something truly tangible in return
*go on every podcast & YouTube show possible, including conservative ones w/audience & bring people impacted by trump actions

More actions Dems could take:

*successful lawsuits already filed by states have been great. I hope they & others will aggressively judge shop like republicans do & file tons of them

* start now to identify & recruit candidates in key 2026 races (which I hope they’re already doing, but who knows?)

I just don’t understand how all these Dem politicians & operatives didn’t develop a plan to hit the ground running to b a true opposition party. They didn’t bring knives to a gunfight, they brought pillows…

I’m sure there are many other effective actions they can take.

Posting about the price of pizza is not on that list….
