Social and environmental impacts of war in Syria | Science

The Syrian conflict, which began in March 2011 after an antigovernment protest (1) and culminated in the collapse of the Assad regime on 8 December 2024 (2), had profound social and environmental consequences. Beyond its devastating effects on human lives, the war has disrupted vital infrastructure, degraded natural resources, and decimated ecosystems.
